Mike Silvester
Distribution & Clean Room Manager, UK
Mike started at Corin in 2003 running the loan service department ‘Quicksilver’ – responsible for hiring out the instrumentation kits (used by surgeons for implanting Corin’s prostheses), ensuring they were despatched and returned to/from UK hospitals. The role entailed a great degree of liaison with the UK salesforce to ensure that hospitals had all the right instrumentation, at the right time – without which scheduled operations would not be able to be undertaken.
Mike came to Corin from a Section Manager role at Tesco, where similarly he was responsible for managing stock levels and a team of people – ensuring that products were on the shelves in the right quantities and at the right time. It was a combination of the people management side of his role as well as an interest in orthopaedics – Mike has a Sports Science degree, specialising in physiology – that first attracted him to work for Corin. His present role offers him variety on a daily basis and plenty of new challenges – from the day-to-day operational management to involvement on key new projects for the Group.
In common with many of his colleagues across Corin, what particularly inspires Mike is the end result of all his efforts: ”I really like the fact that Corin manufactures a product that benefits other people. In my 6+ years here, a lot of opportunities have arisen quickly and I have been encouraged and supported to move up within the company. There are always a lot of new challenges and a wide variety of work”.
