The benefits of modular femoral implants in total hip replacements have long been debated. Modular stems provide the advantage of intra-operative flexibility to deal with the difficult anatomy often encountered in femoral revision surgery such as proximal bone loss.

Before the advent of the MRP-Titan® revision system, individually manufactured special prosthesis with long, straight, non-modular stems were available for the surgical treatment of loosened hip joint prosthesis, tumour resections of the femur and reconstructions after prosthesis explantations. The introduction of custom prostheses meant high implant costs and straight, non-modular stems often led to an unsatisfactory outcome.

The development of the MRP-Titan® modular revision system came about as a way to improve the surgical technique, optimise the fixation of implants to the bone and reduce the need for many instruments or high stock levels.

The MRP-Titan® design aims to ensure the restoration of a painless hip joint capable of bearing weight by uncemented implantation of a rotationally stable, modular revision stem anchored in the diaphysis. It offers intra-operative flexibility in difficult cases to restore leg length, and allows selection of anteversion independently of neck and stem.

The MRP-Titan® revision system can be used for primary and revision arthroplasty, fractures, tumours and reconstructions, providing a solution to one problem after another.
