The Uniglide Experience
24 June 2009
Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) has been shown to be an effective treatment for isolated osteoarthritis in the medial or lateral compartments. It gives the surgeon an opportunity to limit the reconstruction, and preserve the natural kinematics of the knee.
Held across two sites – Warwickshire’s beautiful Coombe Abbey Hotel and the state-of-the-art facilities of the new Surgical Training Centre at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) – this two-day cadaveric instructional course invited surgeons to come and learn about Corin’s Uniglide unicompartmental knee system. Combining live surgery, cadaveric and dry bones workshops, didactic lectures and demonstrations, the meeting attracted delegates from around the globe.
Chaired by Mr Pete Thompson FRCS from UHCW, the course provided detailed information on the subject of unicompartmental knee arthroplasty, including indications, medial and lateral surgical techniques, clinical results and the design rationale of the Uniglide system. The meeting was supported by a faculty of prominent surgeons including Mr Tim Spalding FRCS (Coventry), Mr Steve Krikler FRCS (Coventry), Mr James Robinson FRCS (Bristol), Mr Andrew Porteous FRCS (Bristol) and Mr Ben Lankester FRCS (Yeovil).
