TaperFit™

Cemented Total Hip Replacement

TaperFit.jpg

A cemented double-tapered, polished, collarless stem, TaperFit™ has been designed to take advantage of the phenomenon of 'cement creep', and is based on biomechanical principles proven in over 30 years of clinical use(1).

The TaperFit™ femoral prosthesis incorporates an extended lateral shoulder designed to enhance rotational stability. Three holes on the superior end of the stem enable the use of a dedicated introducer to improve the accuracy of stem alignment in the cement mantle, a critical factor in the long-term success of cemented total hip replacements.

Other key features include:

  • High-strength stainless steel stem.
  • Collarless, fully polished and double tapered design.
  • 36mm, 38mm and 45mm offsets.
  • Five stem sizes available.
  • PMMA stem centraliser.
  • 'Eurocone' 12/14 taper.
  • Compatible with a range of modular heads.
  • Unique stem introducer enhances accurate stem positioning.

Each implant has a dedicated, over-sized broach which produces a cement mantle. A trial reduction can be performed with the broach in situ. Implant depth may be accurately measured by assessing the position of one of the three holes on the superior end of the stem in relation to the resected femoral neck.

Corresponding marks on the stem are intended to ensure the position is accurately replicated once the definitive femoral component is introduced. The patented dedicated introducer is intended to improve stem alignment and eliminate rotation during insertion.
