Derriford Hospital is part of Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust which officially opened in June 1981. It is now the largest hospital trust in the south west peninsula offering treatment options to up to two million patients. Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust is a teaching trust in partnership with the Peninsula Medical School. The trust has an integrated Ministry of Defence Hospital Unit which has a staff of approximately 220 military personnel who work within a variety of posts from lead doctors to trainee medical assistants.
Mr. Simon Coleridge MBCHB MSc FRCS
Mr Simon Coleridge was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Derriford Hospital in 2005. His Senior Fellowship was in Victoria, Australia specialising in knee arthroscopy and sports injuries, as well as knee and hip replacement surgery. During his training he completed a Masters Degree in orthopaedic engineering, with a research thesis on knee ligament reconstruction being completed at Imperial College London. His practice at the NHS hospital and the Plymouth Nuffield Hospital includes sports surgery to the knee including arthroscopy; complex ligament reconstruction, anterior cruciate ligament surgery and meniscal repair.

Mr. Christoph McAllen MB ChB FRCS
Mr McAllen graduated from Bristol University Medical School in 1992. He completed the Bath Basic Surgical Training Rotation and the South West England Higher Surgical Training scheme. He completed a knee surgery fellowship in Sydney, Australia before joining the orthopaedic team at Derriford in 2006. He performs trauma, knee and hip surgery with a specialist interest in soft tissue knee surgery.
