Understanding joint pain and recovery options

About Joint Pain

Chronic joint pain can be caused by many factors, but the most common is osteoarthritis, arising from the erosion of the joint through the daily wear and tear of cartilage. Without this protection, the bones rub together causing pain, stiffness and instability.  As the condition worsens, pain may be present even at rest. It is a degenerative and chronic condition, which means that it will never get better and in fact is likely to become worse over time.

Fortunately, with proper diagnosis, treatment, and care, people can return to everyday activities such as climbing stairs, tying shoes and even resuming their working lives with less pain. At Corin we strive to get you back on your feet and enjoying an active lifestyle as soon as possible. With our wide range of orthopaedic implants – and procedural technologies – we aim to help surgeons to restore your quality of life.

Knee Replacement

When your knee is healthy, it can bend and flex easily. The cartilage between the bones absorbs stress and allows the bones to move freely over each other. Your knee, when unhealthy, can cause you pain and stiffness resulting in limitations to your daily activities. An unhealthy knee is due to inflammation, injury, or simply a long lifetime of use, leading to increased friction and stiffness. Often, the damaged cartilage may allow the knee and leg bones to rub against each other, causing significant pain and often times swelling of the knee joint.

Total knee replacement (TKR) is the removal of damaged cartilage and bone replaced by a new implant. It can be highly effective in relieving pain, restoring function and letting you return to your daily activities. When put in properly, the new implant creates a new, properly functioning joint that prevents painful bone-on-bone contact.

Hip Replacement

Hip Replacement

The hip is one of the most stressed joints in our body (although one which we often take for granted). It is in constant use in everyday movements such as walking, sitting, turning and even driving a car. As soon as the joint starts to stiffen or to cause pain, it becomes evident just how much we rely on it. The pain can become worse if you try to avoid using the joint, as the muscles become weak, making movement more difficult.

Total hip replacement (THR) is a surgical procedure in which parts of an arthritic or damaged joint are removed and replaced. The resulting artificial joint is designed to move just like a healthy hip.
