Mr Josh Petterwood FRACS, FaOrthA
Josh is an Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in knee, hip and shoulder surgery.
Josh has a particular interest in robotic-assisted knee replacement surgery being involved in the technique since its introduction to the Australian market in 2017. He has performed over 250 robotic-assisted total and unicompartmental knee replacements.
He is an early evaluator of Corin’s BalanceBot system using OMNIBotics and the Apex Total Knee System.
Prior to joining Corin’s evaluation team, Josh was part of Smith and Nephew's early market release of the Navio system. He has provided education and training to current and prospective Navio users in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region as a faculty member at multiple instructional courses and cadaver labs.
Josh utilises the Direct Anterior Approach in total hip replacement surgery, routinely using the OPS pre-operative planning tool to gain greater insights into each patients functional spinopelvic anatomy.
As a sportsman himself, Josh has a keen interest in the treatment of sporting injuries with a focus on arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder. This includes ACL reconstruction, multi-ligament knee injuries, meniscal repair and arthroscopic treatment of rotator cuff tears and shoulder instability.
He has extensive experience in the synthetic augmentation of standard autografts used in both ACL reconstruction and patellofemoral stabilisation. He is part of an Australian-led design team developing the LARS mini-hybrid system, an extension of the current LARS 133 augment.
His private practice, Petterwood Orthopaedics, is located at Calvary Hospital Lenah Valley. As a Corin Centre of Excellence, Petterwood Orthopaedics welcomes surgeons to Hobart to gain further experience with OMNIBotics and LARS via direct observation in theatre and hands-on cadaver labs.
He has a public appointment at the Royal Hobart Hospital where he is involved in elective orthopaedics, trauma and the training of junior medical staff.
Outside of the operating theatre Josh is a father of two young boys and a keen road cyclist.
