MetaFix™ collared launches worldwide

1 September 2016

Corin is delighted to announce the worldwide launch of the new MetaFix™ collared stem.

The design of the new MetaFix™ collared stem is based on the MetaFix™ collarless stem. Collared and collarless have the same key design features, with the exception of the medial calcar collar and shorter neck lengths in the smaller size stems.

The presence of the medial calcar collar allows a reduced risk of stem subsidence in the phase of osteointegration. This is particularly important in cases where the quality of the bone is suboptimal.

In the scenario of poor bone quality, collared stems are able to tolerate greater horizontal and vertical plane force before both the start of subsidence and consequent fracture. The improved immediate stability of the collared stem allows more rapid bony ingrowth to achieve secondary fixation. The MetaFix™ collar is different in shape to competitor stems to assist if revision is necessary.

MetaFix™ collared permits the surgeon to treat a wider range of femur morphologies, with the same MetaFix™ collarless instrumentation and operative technique. The only additional instrumentation required will be the trial necks for the short necks. MetaFix™ collared also strengthens Corin's position in the hemiarthroplasty market for those surgeons who believe in a cementless philosophy.

Recreation of the patients' biomechanics particularly in the smaller patient can sometimes be a challenge. To address this MetaFix™ collared has shorter necks in the smaller sizes for both 135Ëš and 125Ëš.

MetaFix™ collared will consist of a 125Ëš and a 135Ëš variant in sizes 0-9* and short necks in 125Ëš size 1 and 2 and 135Ëš size 0, 1 and 2.**
